My last e-Bulletin. This will be the last Bendigo e-Bulletin that I will send out. I have decided to retire after about eight or nine years in the job, I’ve run out of puff! I believe that there are other people who are much more able than I am in this field. I passionately believe that members of a club deserve to and must be talked to frequently and regularly and I hope that I have helped in doing this. I trust there will be someone else to fill my (rather battered) shoes. I have really enjoyed editing this Bulletin – thank you for allowing me to be a tiny part of your O-life.

Peter Creely.

In the last Bulletin we asked for a course setter and helper May 23rd for Fiddlers Green. The a position has now been filled, thanks Terry, Alison and Tony. We are still looking for Course Setters and Helpers for other events during the year, please check HERE, and please put your name forward when you see somewhere, were you can help. We are particularly keen to fill in Helpers positions in June

Coming Events. Saturday 16 May, 2015. Ironman.

It’s on again with Leisha Maggs the course setter, and on a brand new map – Morton Ridge.

Leisha is a former junior winner of this title and is currently a Victorian Junior state representative. So be prepared for some clever courses set in fast and open terrain, with at times some complex gold mining adding to the challenge.

DIRECTIONS: From Bendigo travel out to Eaglehawk. At the main intersection with Sailor’s Gully and Peg Leg Roads, veer left and continue 5.3km along the Loddon Valley Hwy (B260). Turn right into Dempsey St (caution turning just before railway crossing) and follow signs.

From Castlemaine and Melbourne travel to the centre of Bendigo (the Fountain). Turn left into View Street and follow direction signs to Eaglehawk, then as above.

IRON MAN SPRINT FORMAT:

There will be 3 sprint courses all around 1.5 – 2.0 km.

Event 1 – Easy Navigation starts at 12.45 pm prompt with staggered starting times according to your allotted handicap.

Event 2 – Moderate Navigation.

Event 3 – Hard Navigation.

To be eligible for the Junior Male & Female Iron Persons Titles, events 1 and 2 are compulsory.

To be eligible for the Senior Titles, all 3 events are compulsory.

Note; your handicap for event 1 is provisional and may be altered for the remaining events.

Editors Note As mentioned at the beginning, this is Peter Creely’s last e-Bulletin. Peter has been doing this for many years, we want to say ‘Thank You Peter’, for the work over those 8 – 9 years, and we hope to see you at many more events to come

If there is anyone that would like to step into Peter’s shoes, or have some idea’s about the direction the club should go with the e-Bulletin, whether we try something different, like go fortnightly or monthly, or stay weekly as it currently is, have a talk to Richard next time you see him

A course setter and helper are required for May 23rd Fiddlers Green. If you can help please contact Colin, Richard or Jim ASAP to make further arrangements. All course setters and helpers are greatly appreciated and our combined efforts make it possible to run a fantastic calendar of events throughout the year. With enough volunteer involvement we only need to do one of these each per year, so if you haven’t had a look at the clubs online calendar for nominating as a local event course setter/helper, please consider. New course setters are encouraged to have a go, and help is available to get you on the way.

Editors NOTE: The above position has now been filled, thanks Terry, Alison and Tony. Victorian Schools team update (from the OV weekly bulletin)
This year Orienteering Victoria will again select a team of up to 20 high school students to compete in the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships. Some refinements are in progress regarding the selection process. This year participation and commitment from our juniors will be essential to the selection of the team.

Orienteering Victoria is very keen to encourage all potential team members to participate in the major events coming up here in Victoria, e.g. all State Series events and State Championships. Participation in major interstate events such as Easter is also encouraged. More participation from our juniors will further improve their skills. Commitment is also a key factor, so again Orienteering Victoria is encouraging our juniors to attend the upcoming Junior Development training camps and other training events.

The selection criteria will be finalised soon, however in the meantime come along to the training events and camps, and get along to State Series events and Easter, and do your best. Bruce Arthur.

Shoulder bags. When our Space Racing program started way back when, we were given a quantity of calico shoulder bags that we used as ‘show bags’ for promotional purposes. I have at my place about 200 hundred of these; approximately 60 of them have ‘Bendigo Orienteers Inc/Space Racing’ logos printed on them, the rest are blank. If anyone can think of a use for any of these within the club could you please let me know (ASAP, say by 20 March – I need the space!), otherwise I will give the blank ones to an op shop and dispose of the rest. Thanks, PeterC
